Recently I had the opportunity to speak to a few people from lower strata of the society on demonetization. I couldn't record every conversation, but I say with full conviction that there's hardly anyone who is opposed to the historic move by the government.
There's great hope among people but they also uncover some of the administrative challenges. Many complained that bank employees ask for Rs 200-500 for opening Jan Dhan Accounts. Many of them do not keep mobile phones due to fear of being stolen or harassment by the police. These people are still being harassed and oppressed by the so-called educated and the privileged class.
